Weezer emerged on the music scene amidst the aftermath of the grunge rock era with an innovative, unconventional alternative pop rock style that has come to define their career.  The band's two classic early albums, an eponymous debut from 1994 and sophomoric work Pinkerton from 1996, earned them a near instant cult following due to their endearingly geeky lyrics and infectious guitar driven post-punk melodies.
