Friday, June 4Eagles of Death Metal seem more like a brilliant musical jest than a serious rock band. Their music is difficult to pin down to any one genre, existing as an ironic melding of redneck sleaze and death metal sounds, with a sprinkling of classic rock riffs to top it all off. A side project of Queen of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme (drums, producer), along with Jesse Hughes (vocals, guitar), Eagles of Death Metal produces music that is at once danceable and laughable, with blunt, infectious rhythms and catchy, tongue-in-cheek lyrics. The band’s most recent album,
Heart On, incorporates the low-fi charm of a back to basics garage band. Combine this with their slinky blues cadence and seemingly erratic bang and clutter drums, and one is left with a radical, but undeniably appealing, rock experience.
