Friday, June 4Crash Kings bring a radical new sound to the indie rock world, blending the keyboard stylings of Ben Folds with the raw rock rhythms of the White Stripes. Oft described as a guitar-driven band without a guitar, the keyboard and clavinet take the place of the traditional lead guitar role, resulting in an intimate and whimsical sound. Yet the power trio produces much more than simple piano rock, as they pair their eclectic piano compositions with infectious bass grooves with hard-hitting drum beats. The result is a big rock sound with an oddly personal feel, music that feels simultaneously raw and composed, with an undeniable charm. Their debut, self-titled album was released in 2009 on Custard Records.
